Here lies Grenon’s of Newport, an intimate watch boutique founded in 2000 by avid watch collector and connoisseur Raymond Grenon. “I’ve been collecting watches since I was 13 years-old,” shares Grenon. “I got my first watch-related job in the first year out of college, and haven’t looked back since.”
Grenon’s storied career in the watch industry is comprised of many ventures; he worked for some of the country’s largest retailers, spent years distributing timepiece brands and even wrote about watches in a series of watch magazines. By the time the new century came around, already ten years ago, Grenon was primed to enter the retail stratosphere; and thus, Grenon’s of Newport was born.
The store’s interior replicates the style and décor of the celebrated Newport mansions. The walls of Grenon’s are covered in custom-made Italian silk; the chandeliers are of the finest imported crystal and hard-carved brass. Grenon’s luxurious wood display cases house the finest Swiss timepieces, as well-heeled local shoppers and a bevy of summer guests turn to the retailer for their watch and jewelry needs.
“We pride ourselves on our unique inventory,” says Grenon. “We are authorized dealers for all the brands we carry. From rare watches to fancy diamonds, we specialize in the unique.” Moreover, the Grenon’s sales associates are expertly trained, allowing them to properly cater to the first time watch buyer and the seasoned collector alike. Each unique timepiece to enter Grenon’s showroom is inintroduced to the staff, and fully explained as to the functions and why that piece is significant. It is this insistence on a thorough education that allows the employees to be confident in the brands they sell, as they offer distinct and important information for the discerning customer.

They boast a beautiful collection of pre-owned timepieces as well, to which Grenon elaborates, “The pre-owned market has gained strength lately, as people do not have as much money to spend given the current economic situation. Clients often trade in their old pieces for something new, and others simply purchase pre-owned timepieces because of the more affordable price tag.”
