I am looking for a rolex watch as an anniversary present to my husband. I found a 2003 Thunderbird which I like very much. Does the fact that the style has been discontinued make the watch more collectible? What about resale value on any of the Rolex watches in general? The watch I found comes with the box and paperwork from a reputable dealer. The hologram is still intact.
The fact that the 2003 Thunderbird is discontinued does not really make the watch more valuable or collectible. Rolex watches are extremely mass produced. There are newer versions of the the model currently being produced today which are more under demand. The two-toned version retails for $8,550 while the steel version retails for $6,175. Rolex watches do hold their value relatively well compared to other brands but the fact that there are newer versions of the model you are looking at means that the resale value of the 2003 model is not very good.
