I have been shopping for a self winding watch. A local store carries Ball watches, and I am considering a purchase. I have also looked at Tag's (carrera) and Omegas. I like some of the features of the Ball (and price), but don't know if they are close to the ciliber of the others or a wise buy.
Ball is a watch brand that has been around since 1891. Webb C. Ball, the man who the brand is named after, was appointed Chief Inspector for the Lake Shore train lines. Ball's system of timekeeping later became the standard for railroad time and railroad watches. Ball then places biweekly checks on the watches worn by all of his railroad workers. He forbade variations of more than 30 seconds on any of the watches. Hence, Ball watches are extremely accurate pieces and have adopted the motto, “Accuracy under adverse conditions.”
Although Ball watches may not have as much name recognition as Tag Heuer watches or Omega watches, I would say that they are definitely in the same class. They also share a similar price point. Therefore, I would advise you to choose what watch you want to purchase based on your own personal preference. Good luck!
